Last night, Senate Democrats chose to subvert the will of the people by voting to suspend Initiative 960. That's the measure voters approved two years ago that requires a two-thirds majority vote in the Legislature to raise your taxes. The bill they passed last night, Senate Bill 6130, would require only a simple majority to increase taxes.
I know how hard most of our folks in the 16th District work to make ends meet. I also am very concerned about the impact tax increases would have on our local economy, and especially people who are out of work. So I am fighting very hard on your behalf against this measure, because it disrespects voters and sets up our state for tax increases.
Also, I will be voting NO on tax increases.
Unfortunately, that may not be enough. That's why I'm contacting you tonight.

The Democrat lawmakers pushing for this measure need to hear from you!
Tomorrow, House Republicans will push to kill the bill on the floor of the House. However, we expect the measure will remain ALIVE in committee.
This weekend, Saturday, Feb. 13 at 9 a.m. in the John L. O'Brien Building, Hearing Room A, the House Finance Committee will hold a public hearing on SB 6130. Also on the agenda is House Bill 3176, which is one of the many tax increase bills introduced by the Democrats as a way to dig out of the mess they created by years of reckless overspending.
I realize coming to Olympia this weekend may be very difficult for many, as it is a very long drive. If you can attend the hearing, that would be very helpful. If not, I urge you and your neighbors to get on the phone and flood the following numbers with your calls. Tell the governor and the Democratic leaders in Olympia you are firmly against the shenanigans that would gut I-960 and you are against tax increases!
